“Namman” liniment / ointment
“Namman Muay” boxing liniment
Invented in 1930 and made publicly available by Devakam Apothecary Hall in 1960, this proprietary blend of herbs and warming agents have been rubbed into the skin and muscles of Thailand’s top fighters for over 85 years. The roots of this powerful substance have their beginnings in traditional Thai herbal medicine, and for years the exact recipe was kept secret – known only by a few select boxing coaches and passed around fighting circles purely by word of mouth.
It was only much later that Namman Muay would become recognized around the world by athletes and trainers in other disciplines.
The beginnings of this product started with a man named Thongthos Intratat. A pharmacist and Thai boxing coach, Intratat was always interested in herbal medicine and constantly on the lookout for new ways to help his fighter to endure trainings and recover quickly after grueling training sessions and frequent fights.
After much trial and error, he finally hit upon the perfect blend of herbs and penetrating agents that make up the formula that is still used to this day. In fact, it is so effective that even today the exact formulation is kept under lock and key, known only to a handful of Thongthos Intratat’s direct descendants.
